Lisbon, Comporta & the Algarve: A Family Trip Kids Actually Remember

Trip Overview

Ten days through three very different sides of Portugal — the history and street life of Lisbon, the barefoot-luxury calm of Comporta, and the coastline and caves of the Algarve. This trip is built for families with kids in mind at every stop: hands-on activities they'll actually enjoy (a pastry class, a rice farm visit, horseback riding on the beach), resorts with real kids' club and teen programming, and enough downtime that nobody — parents included — comes home needing a vacation from the vacation.

What’s Included

Every detail is planned around making this easy for the whole family — not just booked, but actually thought through for kids and adults both. Here's what's built into the trip from the start.

01

Private Transfers

Airport pickups and all inter-city transportation, arranged door to door — no dragging tired kids through connections or rental car lines.

02

Family-Friendly Luxury Stays

Sublime Lisboa, Sublime Comporta, and Vila Vita Parc — three 5-star properties chosen for real family infrastructure (pools, space to spread out, kids' programming), not just adult-oriented luxury.

03

Kids' Club & Teen Camp

Structured, supervised programming built into the Algarve leg, so kids have their own fun and adults get real pool and spa time — everybody gets a version of vacation they actually want.

04

Hands-On Family Activities

A pastry-making class, a rice farm and artisan visit, horseback riding on the beach — experiences built for kids to participate in, not just watch.

05

Daily Breakfast

Included at all three properties, with select dinners built into the itinerary at family-welcoming local tascas and resort restaurants.

06

Excursions & Entry Fees

Sintra palace entries, the Benagil sea cave boat trip, and beach club access all arranged and pre-booked ahead of time.

Complete Itinerary

Ten days across three settings — enough time in each to actually settle in, with pacing built around kids' energy (not a packed sightseeing checklist), and private guides handling the parts that usually eat up a family's vacation (booking, timing, transferring bags).

  • Day 1 — Arrive Lisbon. Check into Sublime Lisboa. Rest, an easy walk through Amoreiras, welcome dinner at the hotel's Italian restaurant.
  • Day 2 — Lisbon culture day. Private guided walk through Alfama with a tram or tuk-tuk history tour; a pastry-making or Portuguese cooking class for the kids in the afternoon; family dinner in the evening, with an optional age-appropriate fado show.
  • Day 3 — Sintra, then transfer to Comporta. Morning day trip to Sintra's palaces (Pena Palace is the standout for kids); afternoon private transfer to Comporta and check-in at Sublime Comporta; evening beach walk.
  • Day 4 — Comporta beach & rice country. Morning beach club time via hotel shuttle; afternoon guided visit to a local rice farm or artisan workshop.
  • Day 5 — Comporta slow day. No set plans — beach, pool, padel, or a bike ride through the pine forest. The trip's deliberate downtime day, and an important one for young kids and grandparents alike.
  • Day 6 — Comporta wine or fishing village, then transfer to the Algarve. Morning optional wine estate visit or fishing-village walk; afternoon transfer to the Algarve and check-in at Vila Vita Parc.
  • Day 7 — Algarve resort day. Kids join age-appropriate club programming while adults and grandparents use the adults-only pool, spa, or golf simulator; family dinner at one of the resort's casual restaurants.
  • Day 8 — Benagil sea caves. Morning private or small-group boat trip to the Benagil sea caves and grottoes; afternoon beach cove time back at the resort.
  • Day 9 — Silves day trip. Morning inland day trip to Silves for the Moorish castle and old town; afternoon resort time, with an optional sunset sailing trip on one of the property's yachts, weather permitting.
  • Day 10 — Departure. Morning at leisure, private transfer to Faro airport.

Smart Packing for Effortless Travel

Portugal moves from cobblestone city streets to beach club to coastal boat trip in the same week — pack for all three, and for kids in tow.

  • Comfortable walking shoes for the whole family (Alfama's hills are no joke, even for little legs)
  • Swimsuits and water shoes for the beach clubs and resort pools
  • A light layer for cooler Lisbon evenings
  • Reef-safe sunscreen for everyone, especially on the boat trip
  • A dry bag or cover for phones/cameras on the Benagil excursion
  • A small activity bag for transfer days (drive to Comporta, drive/flight to the Algarve)
  • Motion-sickness remedies if needed, for the Benagil boat trip and coastal drives
